Asparagus is a healthy addition to your diet as it is rich in nutrients and vitamins. It is also rich in antioxidants, fiber, vitamins, and minerals. It has a diuretic effect and may help lower blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar.

Here are some tips to help make your asparagus garden thrive.

The PH level for the soil should be between 6.5-7. The PH level of the soil is important because it directly influences the availability of nutrients to the plant. It also affects the activity of beneficial microorganisms in the soil.

Asparagus cold tolerance is between 55 degrees F and 70 degrees F.  Cold tolerance is important because it determines the plants ability to survive and thrive in cold temperatures.

Nutrients to use for better plant production: Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium. Asparagus LOVES bone meal!!

Asparagus needs at least 1 inch of water a week, and at least 8 hours of sunlight a day.

Harvesting of Asparagus is different than other vegetables that you grow in your garden. They can be harvested for a different amount each year. Year 1: 7 days, Year 2: 14 days, Year 3: 3 weeks, Year 4: 30-60 days, Year 5 and beyond: 6-7 weeks. Spears should be harvested when they are about 7 inches tall. Avoid cutting them more than 1 inch below the soil’s surface.
